Life is full of unexpected twists and turns. While we may start out in one career, our experiences may show us other areas we want to pursue, needs that aren’t being met, or open doors to new opportunities. That’s exactly how I found my way into a career as a financial advisor.
First Career Steps
After graduating from Missouri State University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and management, I spent a handful of years using my degree as a human resources manager while also serving in the Missouri National Guard for a total of 20 years, retiring in 2007 as a Major. During my time in an HR role, I found myself drawn more and more to the financial world, specifically investing and financial strategies. I decided I was ready to change careers. I joined the team at The Mutual Fund Store, earning my Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) designation and spending 14 years gaining valuable knowledge and experience in the areas of investment management and retirement planning.
My Career Today
In 2014, I made another shift and became part of the Pinnacle Family Advisors team as vice president and financial advisor. I spend my days working with individuals and small businesses to design a comprehensive and personalized financial and investment plan so they can work toward their goals with confidence.
Ups And Downs
I couldn’t ask for a better job! I get to work with people who are like family to me and equip them to thrive—financially as well as in life in general. That’s a privilege I don’t take lightly. But just as with any other job, I face challenges. It can be difficult to motivate people to engage in the financial planning process, following through with reviews so we can ensure their plan still aligns with their values and goals. Regardless of the hard parts, there’s nothing else I’d rather spend my days doing than striving to give my clients the best advice I possibly can to enrich their lives.
